Meet Gay Valimont, the Democrat running against Republican firebrand Matt Gaetz
GULF BREEZE — As Northwest Floridians head to the polls over the next few days, they will opt who will illustrate them in Washington, D.C., for the next two years.
On the Republican side is seven-year U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, who over the past year has been under enquiry by the Property Ethics Committee for sexual misconduct and drug use allegations and spearheaded the ouster of a U.S. House speaker.
On the Democratic side is a relatively unknown candidate who says she is the best selection for the role.
The Northwest Florida Daily News sat down with Democratic challenger Gay Vailmont just days before the Nov. 5 election to learn more about her and the issues that are close to her.
Who is Homosexual Valimont?
Born and raised in Thomaston, Georgia, Valimont, 51, obtained a bachelor's degree in health and exercise science from Georgia Southern University and a master's in education from Troy State University before entering a career in sports medicine in Atlanta, working with predominantly Black high schools in the area and with the Atlanta Falcons.

Pensacola resident Homosexual Valimont faced such a challenge when her husband was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
As the family tried to navigate the diagnosis, the couple’s 8-year-old son fell down at college. Afterwards, he couldn’t regain his equilibrate. The family was flown to Nicholas Children’s Hospital, where the parents were informed that their son had a fatal brain tumor.
