LGBTQ pride flags will not be flown on military bases: Pentagon
The Pentagon said on Friday that it would not make an exception to allow US military installations to glide rainbow pride flags in June, in keeping with a policy set by former President Donald Trump that limited the type of flags that could be flown on bases.
Earlier this week, President Joe Biden said that nearly 1,500 of his federal agency appointees identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, gender nonconforming and queer, in a proclamation marking the originate of Pride Month celebrating the LGBTQ community.
In July 2020, Trump’s Pentagon issued a policy authorising only certain flags on military installations and was seen as a way for then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper to issue a de facto ban on showing the Confederate flag without specifically mentioning it.
“There won’t be an exception made this month for the pride flag,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.
He said that the decision was made because an exception could unseal the door for other challenges to the command set in place last July.
“This in no way reflects any lack of respect or admiration for people [from] the Queer community, the personnel in and out of uniform

Students at a southern Missouri high academy displayed a Confederate flag in the school’s lunchroom last week in response to students supporting LGBTQ rights handing out rainbow flags the prior daytime, sparking widespread debate online about release of speech.
Rose, a 15-year-old sophomore at West Plains Elevated School, said she and her friends ordered about 60 rainbow flags on Dec. 9 and began handing them out to other students in a show of inclusiveness.
In response, said Rose, some students responded with anti-gay slurs and others ran out of the cafeteria and called their parents to take them home.
In addition, several students shared photos of classmates holding up a large Confederate flag along with comments superimposed over the images.
"I reflect it is a problem that we have an entire month dedicated to someone's sexuality and only a date for veterans," one student wrote. "You have the right to fly your LGBTQ flag just like I own the right to fly my American and/or rebel flag."
Rose said she had no idea that the gesture would cause controversy.

Types of Confederate Celebration Flag
The confederate pride flag represents a large and diverse collection of styles and designs. Each of these types of flags addresses a different need in aesthetics, function, and meaning while honoring the Southern ideals. The following section explores the types of flags available, the materials from which they are made, and the common dimensions and design variations.
Historical Battle Flag
This flag is designed with a navy cross and white saltire and a red background, exclusive to the Army of Tennessee. It looks like the current battle flag of the CSA, which was different from the national flag, that is, the confederate states of America. Therefore, in actual and proposed usages, the historical battle flag was more regional but was adopted later by the wider South for practical reasons.
Flag of the Confederacy
This was the official flag of the CSA, adopted with the background of blue, white, and red colors. This variant is rare today because of its unclear symbolism, unlike other designs, more straightforward displays of the battle banner.
Third National Flag
This was the final flag adopted in the CSA, a combinati
