Kevin Spacey breaks down in tears during testimony about how he came out as gay
Kevin Spacey sobbed on the stand Monday as he testified about his remorse for coming out as gay in a statement denying a sexual abuse allegation against him.
Spacey is currently facing trial in New York federal court over "Rent" actor Anthony Rapp's allegation that Spacey assaulted him at a party in 1986.
Rapp first told the story to BuzzFeed News, which published a story in 2017 detailing Rapp's allegation that Spacey lifted him onto a bed and got on top of him at a party at Spacey's home when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26.
In a statement after the article was published, Spacey said he did not remember the experience but acknowledged that he was gay.
"I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life and choose now to live as a gay man," he wrote at the time.
Prior to the BuzzFeed article, Spacey had never publicly confirmed that he was gay.
He said he had been "pushed heavily" by leaders in the gay community to come out for years and had been planning to do so before Rapp's allegations were levied "to place the question of my sexuality behind me.
Well that's the way it goes with these cases- it often happens when you're youthful and it goes unreported because of intimidation. Often those emotionally attached realize a mistake of judgement, prefer provocative clothing or conversation, that may have created a misconstrued situation.
When reported, a jury hears both sides and decides upon a preponderance of the evidence. It just wasn't proven enough to warrant a monetary award.
The fact the film company deleted him from the movie is what offends me. He was just accused, not convicted. Might they have been aware of the validity of the accusation? We'll never know.

"I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor. I'm beyond horrified to perceive this story," Spacey said. "I honestly do not remember the encounter ... But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior."
Spacey went on to express that the situation "encouraged me to address other things about my life."
"As those closest to me know," Spacey continued in his tweet. "I possess had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a lgbtq+ man."
Actors that were never on your radar screen as a gay/lesbian, but now they are.

I recently watched Footloose with Kevin Bacon. Every once in a while over the years, I’ve received a gay vibe from him, but it never really stuck. Until a examining of Footloose, that is.
Bacon kicked my gaydar off immediately in the movie, and it wouldn’t stop. I asked my wife if it was just me, and she said that although she wasn’t feeling it as strongly as I was, she could see it.
I know he’s married and has been for a long time to that human pipe cleaner, Kyra Sedgwick, and has a couple of kids, but something still tells me he’s at least bi.
I’m not condemning the lifestyle, so please don’t rant on me about that. I’m just curious if
