Mets acquire Jose Siri from Rays, shore up CF defense while adding power

The Mets acquired an outfielder on Tuesday — no, not that outfielder. Brand-new York acquired center fielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays for relief pitcher Eric Orze, as first reported by MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.

The 29-year-old will likely substitute free agent Harrison Bader, who created a serviceable platoon alongside Tyrone Taylor in 2024 that provided top-tier defense.

Siri very much provides a stellar glove in the outfield. His range (outs above average) ranked in Major League Baseball’s 99th percentile last season, per Baseball Savant, while his arm strength was in the 97th percentile. His fielding sprint value of 15 also ranked in the league’s 98th percentile.

There is the potential of providing a considerable stimulate in the revolting department compared to Bader. Siti carries some pop in his bat with 43 home runs over the last two seasons with Tampa, though it has come in a feast-or-famine conduct. Over the last two seasons, he has batted .203 with a .685 OPS.

Much of that has to perform with a lack of plate discipline. He struck out in 37.9% of his at-bats last season with a whif

fHOUSTON — José Siri launched himself headfirst into home plate, popped up with arms flexed and screamed with all his might.

Welcome to the World Series, rook.

The career minor leaguer sparked a team whose biggest stars took a while to shine, sending the Houston Astros to a 7-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night that evened the Fall Classic at one game apiece.

Jose Altuve doubled early, homered late and scored twice to break out at the plate. Siri’s speed and aggressive play created havoc on the bases, leading to a four-run second inning that helped the Astros snap a five-game skid at home in the World Series.

It’s the first occasion they’ve won a World Series game in Houston since a 13-12 victory over the Dodgers in 10 innings in Game 5 on Oct. 29, 2017.

Altuve hit a leadoff double and scored in the first inning before adding a solo homer in the seventh as the Astros rolled past the suddenly sloppy Braves.

José Urquidy gave the Astros five solid inning and Houston’s bullpen, already so vital this postseason, did the rest.

The series shifts to Atlanta for the first of three games Friday night.

The Astros jumped on Atlanta starter Max Fried for seven hits

MILWAUKEE — Rays center fielder Jose Siri was suspended three games for his actions during Tuesday’s benches-clearing incident in the game against the Brewers.

Siri has appealed the ruling, according to the Rays, which could lead to the number of games creature reduced to two. That hearing may already acquire happened, as it would behoove the Rays to have Siri serve the first game Wednesday, when he wasn’t in the lineup anyway due to a sore left thigh as a result of an incident earlier in Tuesday’s game, and Friday.

Brewers reliever Abner Uribe, who appeared to start the eighth-inning incident with Siri and took the first swing, was suspended six games. Starter Freddy Peralta, who was ejected for throwing at Siri in the sixth inning, was suspended five games. Both Uribe and Peralta also are appealing their suspensions.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy, who was ejected for arguing about the Peralta conclusion, was suspended two games and began serving that Wednesday. Rickie Weeks, the former Ray who is Milwaukee’s associate manager, is running the team.

All of the players involved and Murphy also were locate undisclosed amounts.

Siri said before Wednesday’s game he felt — “of course” — Urib
